Den Reputation System
Today we are going to dive into the Reputation System. Generally, the reputation system is a tool that allows each Lair to set the rules for who can do what in each Lair.
Den’s reputation system gives Lair owners flexibility when managing the privileges of new subscribers. Den allows for Lairs to fine-tune the reputation system individually to create the desired effect. For instance, the reputation requirements to participate in Meme Lair may be more forgiving than the ones for Medical/Safety Lair. Each Lair should be able to determine its own environment.
Reputation System
Your reputation is determined by your interactions within the entire Den platform and within each individual Lair. Once you subscribe to a Lair you will need to start interacting to build that reputation. Based on your interactions the system determines your reputation score through a formula that takes the number of votes you have received into consideration.
The Lair owners determine what an acceptable reputation score is needed to do the following within their Lair:
Voting
Creating post
Replying
Adding images
Adding videos
The system disincentivizes negative or inappropriate behavior that the community does not value.
Reputation Economy
So how is this all calculated? What gives you the score? There is a formula. For those who love formulas, you can find it in the white paper found here. Since we all know how much I love formulas let's just talk it out.
Your reputation score is determined by dividing the total upvotes you have received by the combined total of total upvotes and total downvotes and then multiplying that by 100.
For example:
If you have a total of 600 upvotes and 50 downvotes then you would divide 600 by 650 for 0.9230. Then multiply 100 by 0.9230 for a score of 92.30 resulting in 5 stars.
The reputation breaks down as follows:
0-20 1 star
20-40 2 star
40-60 3 star
60-80 4 star
80-100 5 star
This formula is applied to Denizens site-wide. It is also applied to each Denizen subscribed to each Lair. Meaning it will factor in the total upvotes and downvotes for that Denizen within that specific Lair and it may differ between Lairs and the platform.
For example, I may have a site-wide reputation of 95, a Creature Comforts Lair reputation of 100, and a Dance Lair reputation of only 60. I am more involved in Creature Comforts than I am in Dance so I would need to engage more in Dance to bump that score up. A reputation of 60 may not be a bad thing though. It all depends on what level the Lair owners decide to set the reputation.
Setting Reputation
For Lair Owners
At this time, the highest LOT holder is the only one who can make adjustments to the reputation of the Lair. In the future, there will be ways to give additional controls to other Lair owners.
From their personal page, the Lair owners can click the settings tab. Then click reputation. As you can see from the picture below, the reputation toggle is not ticked. At this point, reputation is turned off which is totally fine and at the discretion of the Lair owner.
Once you tick the reputation, you will see it turns blue and all options will show a drop down arrow. Each action available to the Denizens in this Lair is represented here. Just a note that currently torrents are not open for any Lair, but stay tuned.
If you click the drop-down you will now see three sections. The first is Site Reputation Required. Here you can see how many total Denizens are on the platform. In the picture below you will see that at the time of this post 822 delightful Denizens have at least 1 star for site-wide reputation.
If you move the site-wide reputation to 3 you will see how the number of Denizens with 3 stars drops to 322. That means 322 Denizens have a reputation score of at least 40-60. Denizens under that threshold will still be allowed to come into the Lair and read through the posts and comment depending on the settings of those actions, but they will not be allowed to post content.
Next, you see the Lair Reputation Required. In the above picture, 84 Denizens subscribed to this Lair have a reputation of 1 star. If you adjust the toggle to 3 stars that drops to 29 pictured below.
The last bit here is the Lair Reputation Threshold. This can be as low as 1 and has no limit. The purpose of the threshold is to establish how many unique Denizens have evaluated your replies in that Lair before the Lair Reputation Required kicks in. This gives new subscribers a chance to prove that they have good intentions within the Lair.
When setting the reputation, Lair owners should take time to be thoughtful of their choices. For instance, you may want a higher reputation for posting but a lower one for replies. This gives newer members the ability to weigh in on conversations but not quite ready to post.
Why do we have this system and what makes it valuable?
The reputation can be used by Lair owners to restrict access to bad actors within their Lair and limit access to only those Denizens that have proven themselves to be valuable to the community.
Another benefit of setting reputation is it fosters quality content. Denizens with higher reputations will likely create posts of higher quality which in turn will have better chances of trending and sharing in the 1000 MTR mined each day.
Hopefully, you understand the Reputation System a bit better. If you still have questions don’t hesitate to ask.
